  1. Detail how steroids lead to gene activation and protein translation.
  2. What does the hormone-receptor interaction depend on?
  3. Define synergism, antagonism, and permissiveness.
  4. Describe at least 3 ways in which the release of hormones are controlled.



Cardiovascular System I

Study Questions
  1. Detail the pathway of blood from the lungs to the rest of the body.
  2. Detail the pathway of blood from the rest of the body to the lungs.



Cardiovascular System II

Study Questions
  1. Explain what the EKG tells us. What is each wave responsible for?
  2. Define cardiac cycle. How is it calculated?
  3. Define stroke volume. How is it calculated?



Cardiovascular System III

Study Questions
  1. Draw the distinction between arteries, capillaries and veins. How are they distinct? (discuss the tunics)
  2. What are the 3 artery types, and capillary types? and how do they differ?
  3. Describe capillary beds, what are they comprised? Discuss the roles of sphincters.



Cardiovascular System IV

Study Questions
  1. Describe the venuos return vessel types.
  2. What are at least two short-term mechanisms used to control blood pressure?
  3. What factors contibute to blood flow and how? What are the equations?
  4. What is circulatory shock, vascular shock, cardiogenic shock?

Study Questions
  1. What parts comprise the lymphatic system?
  2. Describe lymphatic capillaries.



The Lymphatic System II

Study Questions
  1. Detail the path of lymphatic vessels, starting with the collecting vessels. Give a brief description of each.
  2. Describe the structure of the lymph node.
  3. Detail the circulation of lymph through the lymph node.
  4. Identify 5 lymphoid organs/aggragates and briefly describe what each does.

Study Questions
  1. Detail phagocyte mobilization. Be sure to include a discussion on leukocytosis, margination, diapedesis and chemotaxis.
  2. Detail the tissues response to injury. Be sure to include a discussion on vasodilation, mast cells and liberated chemicals.
  3. Discuss antigen determinants.

Study Questions
  1. Discuss lymphocytes, i.e., where they are generated and educated, discuss immunocompetence, and self tolerance, discuss postitive and negative selection of T cells.
  2. Detail antibodies, i.e., the major classes, what each does and the general structure of an antibody.
  3. Discuss antibody targets and functions.

Study Questions
  1. Discuss the 2 major types of T cells and describe how one of the 2 major types actually kills.
  2. Discuss the oxygen transport.
  3. Detail the 3 forms of C02 transport in the blood.
  4. Discuss the chemical factors, which affect respiration and where this takes place.



The Digestive System

Study Questions
  1. Detail the 3 phases of digestion in the stomach.
  2. Detail the hormonal regulation and neural regulation of digestion in the intestines. Be sure to discuss cck, and secretin.
  3. Detail the role of the pancreas in digestion. Include a discussion on the pancreatic juices.
