Comedy in the Hispanic Community — October 13, 6:30pm Virtual

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the OrJames Lab is pleased to present a discussion on the themes and insights that are at the center of comedy found in the Hispanic community along with their lasting impact on the American fabric. This presentation will provide a broad overview of our understanding of comedy, its function and how it is applied by some of the most popular Hispanic comedians and literary authors. A CLOSER LOOK AT COMEDY —OCTOBER 27, 6:30pm VIRTUAL

This presentation will continue from our previous discussion on comedy. We will draw distinctions between irony, comedy, tragedy and satire by reviewing classical and current scholarship while looking at literary examples. Individuals interested in this event must sign up.

SPECIAL POP-UP EVENT: SHADOW PUPPET SHOW, VIRTUAL: — TBD

This special pop up event will attempt to apply basic concepts of comedy to puppetry, more specifically, shadow puppetry. We will venture to transform the well known play “Antigone” by Sophocles from a tragedy to a comedy : -) A date and time for this event will be made available later. It will be virtual.
